Chris Castle grew up the in 80’s in a North West suburb of Minneapolis,
Minnesota. Since he can remember he taped the Saturday afternoon Hip Hop
mix show on KMOJ Radio. Every time a new BDP or Eric B & Rakim song
like Mahogany would hit, he would play it for friends and neighborhood
friends on a big and grey boom box. Chris was not into the pop scene as
much as must of the other kids in grammar school and Jr. High, while everyone
was into groups New Kids on the Block, All-4-One, Poison, and Guns and
Roses, it never spoke to him the way hip-hop did.
First
real DJ gig was at 17 at a party near the Philips neighbor in South Minneapolis
where the sounds of the DOC, H-Town, DJ Quik and Duice were the dance floor
fillers. Throughout college Chris Dj’ed at the hotspot of that time called
the ‘Underground’ which was in the basement of a Bar and Grill in Marshall,
Minnesota. The Underground, being in a small town in Minnesota, introduced
Chris to other variety’s of mainstream music and quickly learned how to
be diverse and flexible with the crowd.
After
college Chris Castle moved to Naples, Florida for a 12-month contract job.
The clubs in the area introduced Chris to Progressive House and Trance
music. The energy given off by the patrons that was produced by the intensity
of the music and the DJ amazed him. After hours upon hours at local records
store and listening to what the local dj’s had to say, Chris Castle stepped
up the tempo and was beat-matching records at almost double the beats-per-minute
he was used to. Shortly after picking up the feeling for this style of
music, he soon had a 4-month long residency a local nightclub called Hurricane
Janes and then moved back to Minnesota.
DJ
Chris Castle currently spins hip-hop, top 40 and house in some of the hottest
clubs in Minneapolis/St. Paul and hosts many promotional events. |
