| Cedar
Avenue is a group of four talented musicians, songwriters and performers
based in the Twin Cities. The band got its start when songwriter, guitar
player and vocalist Jesse Mathews, collaborated with a friend from school
who played bass, Kyle Wachter, in the recording studio on a song that soon
became popular with many fans in their Minneapolis and St. Paul community.
Kyle
quickly abandoned earlier plans to perform at Orchestra Hall as a professional
tuba player and joined with Jesse to form the band, Cedar Avenue, named
after a historic Twin City street they both grew up near. Even while Jesse
was studying in California, he was creating new songs and developing new
music that he then brought back to Minnesota, where Kyle would add his
own ideas and innovative bass stylings.
These
songs were brought into the studio along with Minneapolis artist Mark Betters
on percussion to create the Running Home EP. Finished with his studies,
Jesse returned to Minnesota to devote his time, talents, and skills to
writing new and original music along with Kyle on bass, Derrin Shafer on
vocals and keyboards, and newest member, Twin Cities percussionist Shawn
Burtis. Together they are creating a unique sound and style that is becoming
known, recognized, and appreciated in the Midwest as Cedar Avenue. |
